Dr. Richard Idro

Dr Richard Idro is a Senior Lecturer at Makerere University, Consultant Paediatrician/Paediatric Neurologist at Mulago hospital in Uganda and Honorary Research Fellow in Tropical Medicine at University of Oxford, UK. He trained in paediatrics at Makerere University School of Medicine in Uganda, obtained a PhD in Neuroscience from University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and trained in neurology at the Great Ormond Street hospital in London, UK. His research focuses on the pathogenesis of brain injury and the sequelae of central nervous system (CNS) infections and interventions to improve outcome. He is a PI on several brain injury studies. These studies have resulted in over 90 publications and several awards including an African Research Leadership Award and the Inaugural Greenwood Africa Award. He is a Board Member of the International Child Neurology Association and sits on the World Health Organization Technical Committee on Severe Malaria as a co-opted member and the Budget and Research Advocacy Committees of the International League against Epilepsy.
