Prof.Dr. Eugen Boltshauser

Eugen Boltshauser was head of the division of Pediatric Neurology at the Children’s’ University Hospital in Zürich, Switzerland, from 1988 – 2011. He has a major interest in the cerebellum, in particular in malformations, non-progressive congenital ataxias, disruptions, and imaging pattern recognition. He made contributions to Joubert Syndrome (a designation he suggested in 1977), described a new constellation of clinical and imaging findings, subsequently called Poretti-Boltshauser Syndrome (OMIM # 615960), and he described a further new cerebellar gray matter imaging pattern (Cerebellar Bottom-of-Fissure Dysplasia). He is co-editor of Cerebellar Disorders in Children (Mac Keith Press 2012). He is committed in postgraduate training at various levels, and he is engaged as supervisor in BPNA distance learning courses for groups in Switzerland and Germany. Awards: Peter-Emil Becker Prize (2008, Society of Neuropediatrics); Cornelia de Lange Medal (2013, Dutch Child Neurology Society), Honorary Member (2015, Society of Neuropediatrics); Honorary Member (2015, European Paediatric Neurology Society); Guido Fanconi Memorial Award (Swiss Society of Pediatrics).
